Throughout my life I have always been motivated and inspired by art, working heavily in the traditional techniques particularly watercolours, I loved the way the colours mixed so easily to create a very vivid effect, the technique allowed me to paint my imagination in ways that a pencil could not, as I advanced in my studies I became faster and better and eventually watercolours became my sole medium, I used it for everything from sketching to painting fine arts.

I took inspiration from Hayao Miyazaki, one of the founders of Studio Ghibli which is responsible for great works such as Spirited Away, but the film that did it for me was Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and Princess Mononoke, the animation, the characters, the story, the picture and quality of the art was exceptional.
It wasn't until I was granted an audience with an artist from Squaresoft (now Square-Enix) that I decided to pursue a career in visual effects, the CG cut sequences they developed for their titles were truly amazing and the artist described to me how the technical process was worked and created through an artistic mindset, from a fine watercolour concept to a fully blown 3d creation inspired me to pursue this field, I loved the idea of creating your imagination and then breathing life into it for your audience, because of this the transition from 2D to 3D was a clear decision.

My exposure to the world of 3D hasn't been all that long having only started learning the field in late 2004 and it was for my first academic project, for me It was technology and art combined, and opened new doors to new possibilities.
Although still at an early stage, I have a fundamental understanding in the techniques used in 3D and have aquired the skills in the following areas.

  • Special Effects and Live Video Compositing
  • Traditional Artist Skills including Acrylic and Watercolour Painting/ Still Life
